How this is calculated
Volume in cubic feet is length × width × average depth (rectangular and oval, with oval adjusted by a 0.85 shape factor), or π × radius² × average depth for round pools. Cubic feet is then converted to gallons by multiplying by 7.5 (1 cubic foot ≈ 7.48 gallons). Average depth is the shallow and deep end depths averaged together, which is the standard approximation for pools with a consistent slope.

How accurate is this calculator?
It's accurate for pools that are close to a standard rectangular, round, or oval shape with a fairly even slope between shallow and deep ends — which covers most residential pools. Freeform or heavily stepped pools will be an approximation rather than an exact figure.
Why does my pool's volume matter?
Chemical dosing — chlorine, shock, algaecide, pH adjusters — is calculated per gallon of water. Treating a pool based on a guessed volume instead of its actual size is one of the most common reasons chemistry ends up over- or under-corrected.
What if my pool has an irregular or freeform shape?
Break it into two or three rough rectangular or round sections, calculate each separately, and add the results together. For anything more complex, we can give you an accurate measurement as part of a service visit.
Should I use my pool's max depth or the current water level?
Use the actual depth of the water right now, not the pool's maximum design depth — if your water level runs a few inches low, using the design depth will overstate your volume.
